MESUÁ Medical spa
MeSuá offers clients an elegant decor in a
comfortable setting complete with a pool for
relaxing outside in the shade before or after getting treatment.
LOCATED AT 1900 BRICKELL AVENUE in Miami in what
used to be a private house (only one of two houses left on a road now filled
with multi-million-dollar high-rise condominium buildings), MeSuá Dermocosmetic
Spa is the brainchild of Jorge Suárez-Menéndez, M.D., a 22-year-veteran plastic
surgeon. In creating his spa, Suárez-Menéndez’s purpose was to provide a caring,
professional environment that integrates the elements of science and nature
along with the human touch. And, most importantly, Suárez-Menéndez wanted to do
it right. “It took more than ten years to put together”, he says. “Over five
thousand hours of work, two million investment in the property, and one million
in research and development in my own product line.”
Opened in January of 2002, the spa offers many
different types of services, ranging from a variety of facials, massage therapy,
and full-body treatments in addition to advanced anti-aging skincare and plastic
surgery. Seven 16 feet by 16 feet treatment suites are available, three of which
have a shower, steam room, and sauna. All have aromatherapy and individual
controls for lighting, sound, and temperature. For guests who desire privacy, a
back entrance is available for the treatments suites. Suárez-Menéndez feels that
the biggest change he’s had to make over the years was becoming an entrepreneur
and finding the right partners. “Whenever I got affiliated with people, I had to
let them go because we didn’t have the same vision?they wanted to make a quick
buck,” he says. When Suárez-Menéndez began to invest in his medical spa, some of
his colleagues told him he was nuts. But he saw his vision through to fruition
and soon plans to launch an extensive website in English and Spanish the first
week of this month with over 100 pages meant to reach the consumer directly.
Suárez-Menéndez believes the most important aspect of running a successful
medical spa is having the right people in place, including highly trained
medical estheticians. “A medical esthetician takes another thousand hours of
training. And then it takes time to work with her once she’s in the office. It’s
so hard to convey that to the public. Once you get the people here and get their
ear, you can educate them.” This coming January, Suárez-Menéndez plans to add a
Harvard-educated dermatologist as well as one of the country’s leading doctors
of anti-aging hormonal therapy. What’s in store for the future? “The sky’s the
limit if you do it right and you do it professionally,” Suárez-Menéndez
says.
